Project
MedlinePlus is the National Institutes of Health's website that provides the public with access to a selective and reliable collection of consumer health information for patients, families, and health care providers. Launched in 1998, and offering information in English and Spanish, the website continues to grow and house ever larger amounts of very detailed information.
The U.S. National Library of Medicine, which produces and maintains MedlinePlus, approached Substance151 to help improve the website’s navigation, content flow, user interface design and use of color and to create a deeper connection with the users by providing them with a more rewarding user experience.
The old website looked dated and its content seemed overwhelming, which did not reflect the website’s goal of being perceived as the cutting-edge informational resource for the modern age consumer. The new design greatly improves the look and feel of the website, making it more engaging and more appealing to website visitors. It utilizes softer design elements, photography and a color-coding system that adds to the website’s functionality and to its visual impact. The new page layouts present information in a clear, structured and easy-to-follow manner, helping to guide website visitors’ navigational choices and providing them with quicker, easier access to all relevant information.
"I know I speak for our entire team when I say we really appreciate all of the work you did this year for our redesign. Thank you so much for all of your creative input and for working with us when we asked questions or asked for modifications. I think our organization and our audience will be very pleased with the new look and feel you developed for us."
